As a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) organization, the Friends strengthens and expands what the Door County Library system can offer — supporting early literacy and lifelong learning, access to books and technology, community programs, author events and opportunities that bring people together. A remarkable birthday deserves a remarkable celebration. To mark the 100th anniversary of A.A. Milne’s beloved “Winnie-the-Pooh,” one of the most enduring characters in children's literature, the Friends of Door County Libraries is launching Winnie-Pooh-Looza, a countywide observance that will kick off with a fundraising social on Friday, Oct. 2,
     Friends has worked with a host of community partners to create an unprecedented centennial celebration running through October, with a roster of events and experiences.

During the annual Door County Reads, hundreds of people receive free copies of the selected book thanks to the Friends.  Wider access to the chosen book means that more people join in public discussions and attend author and panel events.

Every donated and purchased book directly funds programs that make a difference, from children’s reading programs to digital learning resources. Community members’ donations and volunteers strengthen local library services across all eight Door County branches, from Forestville to Washington Island. Winnie-Pooh-Looza Calendar of Events

Celebrate 100 years of Winnie-the-Pooh all October long with Hundred Acre Wood walks, storybook and poetry trails, nature and writing adventures, hands-on activities, music, and even special Pooh Corners at libraries throughout Door County. Pick up free activity booklets and Letters to Pooh writing kits, explore Door County’s own “Hundred Acre Wood,” and join in a countywide celebration inspired by Pooh, his friends, and the enduring wisdom of A. A. Milne’s 1926 classic. Find your own special way to celebrate Winnie-the-Pooh. There's something for everyone in practically every corner of Door County. Hundred Acre Wood Mapmaking Workshop

Mapping Our Own Adventure/ 100 Years of Winnie-the-Pooh. Drop in for a morning of mapmaking inspired by E.H. Shepard's illustrated map of the Hundred Acre Wood. A large-scale collaborative map of this fictional land invites participants of all ages to add a tree, book character, and/or animal home (think treehouses, dens, nests, and more). The finished map will be filled with illustrations, stories, and a shared love of Winnie-the-Pooh!. As a take-home, families can also create a small map of their own neighborhood--including houses, parks, favorite places, animals, and more--using watercolors and markers. Be Busy as a Bee Candle-making Workshop
